FAST FASHION

Here, we'll focus more on fast fashion and its impact on the environment.

FAST FASHION

An approach to the design, creation and marketing of clothing that emphasizes making fashion trends quickly and cheaply available to cosumers.
Fast Fashion is the term used to describe clothing designs that move quickly from the catwalk to stores to take advantage of trend.

Fast Fashion grew during the late 20th century as manufacturing of clothing became less expensive  . The result of more efficient supply chains and new quick response manufacturing methods and greater reliance on low cost labour from the apparel manufacturing industries of south , southeast and east asia , where women make up 85-90% of the garment work force.

WHY FAST FASHION IS A PROBLEM

Fast Fashion describes cheap, stylish, mass-produced clothes that have a huge impact on the environment . these garments appeal to shoppers because they are affordable and trendy. but because they are not built to last and quickly go out of style , these clothes are quickly discarded , piling up in landfills.

Fast Fashion negative impact includes its use of cheap toxic textile dyes making the Fast Fashion industry ONE OF THE LARGEST POLLUTERS of clean water globally.

THE FASHION INDUSTRY IS THE SECOND BIGGEST POLLUTION INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD RIGHT AFTER THE OIL INDUSTRY.

By 2050 there will be more plastics in the ocean than fish. which includes the microfibers shed from our polyester garments and yet we cant seem to stop buying.
The human population is only 7.9 billion people , so thats almost 14 times as many humans exist on our planet . globally , 92 million tones of textile waste is created each year and waste water from garment factories in china contribute to 70% of the country water being polluted.

ABOUT 53 MILLION TONNES OF FIBRE IS PRODUCED BY THE FASHION INDUSTORY EVERY YEAR , OF WHICH 70% IS WASTED.
