THE PEOPLE'S VOICE :
FIGHT FOR OUR ENVIROMENTAL FUTURE
The environment refers to the surroundings in which life exists on earth. Components like animals, humans, sunlight, water, trees, and air make up the environment.
Environment plays an important role in healthy living and the existence of life on planet earth. Earth is a home for different living species and we all are dependent on the environment for food, air, water, and other needs. Therefore, it is important for every individual to save and protect our environment.Healthy ecosystems clean our water, purify our air, maintain our soil, regulate the climate, recycle nutrients and provide us with food. They provide raw materials and resources for medicines and other purposes. They are at the foundation of all civilisation and sustain our economies.
what fashion industry does to the environment
Fashion and its supply chain is the third largest polluting industry, after food and construction. It emitted 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, releasing 1.2 billion tones of carbon dioxide per year, more than the shipping and the aviation industry combined
Globally, the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry after the oil and gas sector. Responsible for 1.2 billion tones of greenhouse gas emissions annually, every UK household, as a result of their clothing consumption, produces the equivalent emissions of driving a modern car for 6,000 miles. It dries up water sources and pollutes rivers and streams, while 85% of all textiles go to dumps each year. Even washing clothes releases 500 000 tons of micro fibre into the ocean each year, the equivalent of 50 billion plastic bottles. To produce clothing, chemicals are used during fiber production, dyeing, bleaching, and wet processing. Material production, in particular, causes a large percentage of the chemicals used in fashion; for example, non-organic cotton production uses 11% of the world's pesticides and 24% of all insecticides.
However, there are solutions and alternatives to mitigate these problems. The first step lies in building awareness and willingness to change.
Choose clothes made in countries with stricter environmental regulations for factories.
Environment is no one's property to destroy; it's everyone's responsibility to protect.
